The myth of Heavy Lifting

Should I Do the Heavy Lifting ?

Myth: Lifting heavy weights makes me bulky and lifting light weights makes me long and thin.

Truth: To be frank, let this one die. For those who haven’t thought about this before let’s use science as a reasoning tactic.

Lifting heavy weights doesn’t necessarily guarantee muscle growth or mass, as many of the physiological adaptations that make you stronger occur in your central nervous system rather than in your muscles.

Training with higher rep ranges can improve your endurance and increase your resistance to fatigue, but it won’t lengthen your muscles and they certainly won’t get leaner.

There is still no localized subcutaneous fat reduction (also known as spot reduction).

So while it won’t squeeze you down to a bodybuilder’s waist, weightlifting increases muscle recruitment, improves bone mass, increases performance, and improves core stability.
